Will the 3 Idiots remake take off?

The much-hyped 3 Idiots remake was supposed to start on December 6th in Dehradun. But there seems to be no news about this film. Only recently, there were media reports that Vijay, who was supposed to don the lead role in this film, moved out. This was not confirmed by either director Shankar or Vijay.

With no talk about the 3 Idiots remake commencing as planned, it makes on wonder if the project is really in the anvil. One speculation that is going on is that would a director of Shankar's caliber want to direct a remake? And this especially after basking in the glory of the success of Endhiran or Robot?
