Joseph Lelyveld’s book Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi And His Struggle With India has stirred the hornets nest by claiming the Gandhi was a racist and had an affair with German-Jewish architect and bodybuilder Hermann Kallenbach.
The Gujarat and Central governments immediately declared the book as banned in India and now the Union Government is contemplating on bringing a law that will make insulting the Father of the Nation as a crime.
The Law Ministry is considering to amend the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971, which will make insulting Gandhi an offense.
